Since November 2022, we have been collaborating with Calaveras Communities to create unique Community Monument Signs for each area. In 2022, we organized six open houses and stakeholder meetings, and in early 2023, over 1,300 community members responded to our surveys. These events were instrumental in determining the Final Design. Currently, the signs are in their final stage of approval and are expected to be built in early 2024.
Caltrans is partnering with Calaveras County and the City of Angels Camp to build gateway monuments and wayfinding signs at key locations along the state highways in Calaveras County.
The project includes development of a comprehensive gateway signage program covering 22 locations in seven communities along State Routes 12, 26, 49, and 4. These communities include: Angels Camp, Arnold, Copperopolis, Murphys, San Andreas, Valley Springs, and Mokelumne Hill.
The project is funded by the Clean California State Beautification Program for the purpose of improving the aesthetics of public spaces with transformative beautification projects along the state highway system.
